We saw this article awhile back in the Peninsula Press, Stanford University’s press program, and thought we should share it.
Another innovative use for USB flash drives, this time by a community that’s arguably the epicenter of Silicon Valley. The program has senior citizens in Palo Alto and surrounding area carrying USB flash drives on their keychains which are pre-loaded with their medical information and emergency contacts.
In the event of a medical emergency, first responders can quickly get the person’s entire medical history, complete with allergies and medications, as well as who to call. Now that’s smart. This is enabling what so many seniors desire, namely to live at home, or to ‘age in place’ as the trend is termed.
